Nonprofit group linked to lawmaker was funded mostly by clients of lobbyist

The former president of the US Family Network said Buckham told him that Russians contributed $1 million to the group in 1998 specifically to influence DeLay’s vote on legislation the International Monetary Fund needed to finance a bailout of the collapsing Russian economy.

That my friends, is called fascism - when corporate interest rules over the will of the people.

Left unmentioned that Atta, you know, the “9/11 master mind” was a regular guest on Abramoff’s casino ship…

German media: U.S. prepares Iran strike

Goss’s visit to the Turkish capital followed the rising international concern over recent statements by the new Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that Israel should be “wiped off the map,” denying the existence of Holocaust, and suggesting that Israel’s Jewish population might be re-located to Europe.

It’s funny how they never mention what Israel has to say about Iran.

Looks like we were right. Iran is probably going down. We’ve heard Bush say “all options are on the table” before, and the DSM say he wasn’t totally honest. Iran may not be as easy military opponent as Iraq was. Hopefully more leakers will put forward documents that the U.S. and U.K. government aren’t entirely truthful in their endeavour on “war on terror”. Additionally, Israel could potentially be filmed under a spotlight with its pants down.

Conyers Talks Impeachment

Listen to audio of Congressman John Conyers talking about the Bush Administration’s crimes, and his efforts to censure Bush and Cheney and to create an investigation that would develop articles of impeachment. I recorded this conversation with the Congressman on December 29th.

Israel rules out pre-emptive strike on Iran

“There is no threat to the existence of the state of Israel as long as Iran does not possess nuclear arms.”

Ok, let’s put thing in reverse for a second.

“There is no threat to the existence of the state of Iran as long as Israel does not possess nuclear arms.”

Oops, it already does, although they don’t confirm or deny it. But the fact that they won’t let Vanunu out of Israel speak for itself.

Meir Dagan, the head of the Mossad overseas intelligence agency, told MPs earlier this week that Iran will be able to build an atom bomb within two years.

So far, no evidence to support the claim. IAEA said they have no evidence to support it. Just like they found none in Iraq…

Iran wants to be heard

Iran’s foreign minister Manouchehr Mottaki said Friday that remarks made earlier this week by the country’s president that the Nazi mass murder of Jews during World War II was a “myth” was the official Iranian government’s position on the issue. “The words of [president] Mahmoud Ahmadinejad on the Holocaust and on Israel are not personal opinions, nor isolated statements but they express the view of the [Iranian] government,” Mottaki said. Ahmadinejad made the Holocaust remarks on Wednesday while it was in October he said Israel should be “wiped off the map.”

“The Palestinians or Islamic nations can not be forced to pay for the injustices the Europeans believe they committed against the Jews,” the minister said speaking at Tehran airport after a visit to Pakistan.

“The Europeans have to understand that the current Iranian government doesn’t have any intention to play the role of someone who listens without having the right to reply,” he said adding that if Europe wants to have relations with Iran “it has to learn to listen to our opinions and take them into account.”

Europe’s dialogue with Iran, Mottaki said - apparently referring to negotiations by Britain, France and Germany to persuade Iran to shelf its uranium enrichment plans - can only take place in “a climate which is not influenced by Zionism”.

More british papers

I am in discussion with the FCO over what I am and am not allowed to publish in my book. The FCO is seeking to gut the book of all evidence of complicity with the Uzbek regime.

With Bliar cornered on extraordinary rendition, they are particularly anxious to suppress all evidence of our complicity in obtaining intelligence from Uzbek torture.

In particular, they have demanded I do not publish the attached documents, and that I hand over all copies of them.

The obvious answer to this is to post these documents as widely on the web as possible. This is also potentially very valuable in establishing that I am not attempting to make money from these documents - you don’t have to buy my book to see them, they are freely available. If you buy the book, you are only paying for the added value of my thoughts.

This will only work if we can get the [documents] very widely posted, including on sites in the US and elsewhere outside the UK … there is a chance that those who … post this stuff will get threatened under the Official Secrets Act.

In March 2003 I was summoned back to London from Tashkent specifically for a meeting at which I was told to stop protesting. I was told specifically that it was perfectly legal for us to obtain and to use intelligence from the Uzbek torture chambers.

After this meeting Sir Michael Wood, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office’s legal adviser, wrote to confirm this position. This minute from Michael Wood is perhaps the most important document that has become public about extraordinary rendition. It is irrefutable evidence of the government’s use of torture material, and that I was attempting to stop it. It is no wonder that the government is trying to suppress this.

What’s interesting is, that it’s illegal for them to publish certain documents (see top of the page) due to Official Secrets Act.
It is evident to me, that they use it not just to hide state secrets, but also their dirty laundry.

Best wishes to bloggers in England.

US won’t hand over prisons until Iraqis meet basic detainees’ rights… and then some more

EU report on Israel and its policies + recommendations

European NGOs defy EU secrecy on Jerusalem

European organisations today defied the refusal of EU Ministers to publish a report compiled by their own diplomats regarding Israeli violations of international law with regard to East Jerusalem. Over 30 Jewish, Palestinian, peace and anti-poverty groups from around Europe will publish the suppressed Report on their websites.

The report, which states that “Israel’s activities in Jerusalem are in violation of both its Roadmap obligations and international law” was shelved by EU foreign ministers at their 12 December Foreign Affairs (GAERC) meeting in Brussels, for fear of alienating Israel and reducing the EU’s influence.

Yet, protesting groups point out, only one day after the report’s suppression, Israel announced the building of 300 new homes in the Maale Adumim settlement, the largest in the occupied territories, in violation of the Road Map and international law.

Pierre Galand, Senator in the Belgian Parliament and Chair of the European Co-ordinating Committee on Palestine (ECCP) said: “European diplomats had the courage to stress the alarming situation in East Jerusalem. In order to force the EU member states to respect their own commitment to International Law and Human Rights, we will publish the report on East Jerusalem on our websites, despite the EU refusal to do so.”

Dan Judelson, Secretary of European Jews for a Just Peace said “The EU are burying their heads in the sand and are thus co-responsible while East Jerusalem residents face repeated violations of international law and of simple standards of humanity, all at the hands of the Israeli state. If the EU sits on this report, we see it as our duty to make it as widely available as we can.”

Nick Dearden, Senior Campaigns Officer at War on Want said: “The desperation of Palestinians across the West Bank now threatens those who live in East Jerusalem, as Israel inflames and intensifies its Occupation. By suppressing the truth, which their own diplomats have made clear to them, European governments have sent a clear message to Israel that its aggression will be met only with silence.”

Goss Tells Turks to Prepare for Iran Attack

PHX News was more specific and noted the lack of attention the story: “In an overlooked story, the Turkish press reported last week that CIA Director Porter Goss went to Ankara recently and informed the Turkish government that Iran already has nuclear weapons and they should be ready for ‘a possible US air operation against Iran and Syria.’

Ignoring the IAEA report that concluded, that they cannot find any evidence that Iran is building a nuke.

Santa told to sack his gas-emitting team of reindeer

Now Santa has been urged to ditch his sleigh team and start travelling on public transport to cut down on greenhouse gas emissions.

It has been calculated that Santa’s team of nine reindeer would emit methane with a global warming impact equivalent to more than 40,600 tonnes of greenhouse gases on the 122 million mile Christmas Eve dash to deliver presents around the world.

That would make his marathon sleigh ride almost as environmentally damaging as an aircraft, which would produce approximately 41,500 tonnes of on the Christmas Eve trip.

I wonder if they added Santa’s role in this as well.
