Sundee’s picture(s)
Been a bit busy with the camera. I’ve tucked pictures under the fold to haste page load.
Coenagrion puella by the front yard pond. Notice the shape of black markings on first abdominal segment in males. Dragonflies form “tandems”, where male grabs the female with his appendages that are located at the tip of the abdomen. Then, when the female is ready to pick up sperm, she arches the abdomen forward and picks up the sperm. The male often accompanies her while she lays her legs. It’s not that he’s helping or anything, but he likes to be the first one to have the dibs.

Enallagna cyathigerum

Satyrium w-album

Libellula depressa in our front yard by the pond. Could the chipped wing be close encounter with Lanius collurio that lives in the neighborhood? You can tell the species by broad antehumeral stripes. Other similar species don’t have them, and others don’t have black markings on wing bases.
This species was the first to appear when I built the pond a few years ago.
